I would gladly put this side by side with the greatest Côte Rôtie out there, and it's a magical, seamless Syrah that could come from nowhere else.
The nose offers mineral and ocean-influenced aromas of lemon pith, salt brine, chalk and struck match. The palate is medium-bodied with bright acidity and tightly wound notes of nectarines, key lime pie, sea salt and grapefruit. Very thoughtful and well made.
Cohen’s pick: 30 Paso Robles 2022 standouts. 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. A nose of cherry pie and crushed violet petals is followed by a palate showcasing concentrated red fruits and a robust structure. An 'iron first in velvet glove' wine, with both strength and delicacy. Best laid down for a few years to allow the tannins to soften, and the structural and flavour elements to harmonise.
